HSBC Job Simulation in brief
| What it is | HSBC's online assessment, which many candidates still call the Job Simulation. It contains one or two work-based assessments, using realistic workplace scenarios linked to the programme you applied for. |
|---|---|
| How long | Around 40 minutes per assessment, and up to about 90 minutes in total. Some activities are timed, especially the video responses. |
| Task types | Interpreting data tables and graphs, reading mock emails and articles, choosing how to handle workplace situations and writing short replies. Some questions are presented through audio or video. |
| Video questions | Short recorded video responses. You'll need a webcam, and HSBC recommends a laptop or tablet rather than a phone. |
| Results | Normally within a couple of days, with developmental feedback. Building the assessment centre shortlist can take a couple of weeks or longer. |
HSBC graduate application process
HSBC currently presents its graduate process as three main stages: application, online assessment and assessment centre. The online stage can contain one or two assessments, depending on the programme and market.
Online application
HSBC says the application takes roughly 10–15 minutes. You answer basic eligibility questions and may need to provide a CV or transcripts. Its current guidance says there are no long written application questions.
Candidate support and adjustments
Candidates can tell HSBC about required adjustments and gain access to its Candidate Zone and Practice Zone before completing the assessment.
HSBC online assessment
HSBC describes work-based assessments designed to show cognitive and behavioural skills.
HSBC assessment centre
HSBC describes this as the final stage. Assessment centres are mostly virtual, but some are held in person. HSBC says they normally last around three hours and include interviews and exercises.
What is the HSBC Job Simulation?
“Job Simulation” is the name most candidates search for, and you'll also see “Online Immersive Assessment” and “values assessment”. HSBC's current guidance simply calls this stage its online assessment: an immersive, work-based experience that may contain one or two assessments, depending on the programme and market. HSBC doesn't say whether Commercial Bank Relationship Management candidates get one or two, so follow your invitation.
HSBC Online Immersive Assessment: what HSBC currently confirms
The assessment uses real-life workplace scenarios to see how your skills align with the programme you applied for.
- Data and graphs — HSBC explicitly says you may need to interpret graphs or data tables similar to information used at work.
- Audio and visual content — Questions may be presented through different media rather than as a conventional aptitude-test booklet.
- Mock emails and written material — HSBC says its assessments can include workplace information such as emails and written articles.
- Short written responses — Current HSBC FAQs confirm that some responses may require candidates to write rather than simply choose an option.
- Short video responses — HSBC also confirms recorded video responses as part of its current online assessment experience.
- Behaviour and judgement — The process is designed to assess both cognitive and behavioural skills rather than finance knowledge alone.
- Results and feedback — HSBC says results normally arrive within a couple of days, and its emails give developmental feedback on your strengths and areas to develop.
How long does the HSBC online assessment take?
Allow around 40 minutes per assessment and up to about 90 minutes in total, depending on whether your programme uses one assessment or two. It isn't accurate to call the whole assessment untimed, or to say it lasts exactly 90 minutes: HSBC says some activities are time-recorded or time-limited, especially video responses. Your invitation is the definitive guide to your own timing.
What equipment should you use?
HSBC recommends a laptop or tablet with a strong internet connection rather than a mobile because candidates need to review several information sources. For video responses you need a webcam. Use the technical instructions in your HSBC assessment invitation as the final source of truth for any additional equipment requirements.
HSBC Candidate Zone and Practice Zone
The Candidate Zone is HSBC's wider candidate guidance; the Practice Zone is familiarisation material for the assessment itself. The Practice Zone is at hsbc.preparationplus.com, which shows in Google as “HSBC Candidate Zone”. Work through it before you open the live assessment, then use the free Job Simulation questions below to practise those formats in banking scenarios.
HSBC values assessment: what should you actually prepare?
HSBC tells candidates to learn its values and think about how they can embody them during the online assessment. The current values are:
- We get it done — Move at pace, make clear decisions, follow through and deliver what you promised.
- We value difference — Listen to different perspectives rather than assuming your first view is automatically right.
- We take responsibility — Use sound judgement, hold yourself accountable and speak up when something does not look right.
- We succeed together — Work across teams and boundaries rather than trying to solve every problem alone.
For Commercial Bank Relationship Management, the vacancy says HSBC is looking for relationship-building, communication, teamwork, adaptability, attention to detail, ownership, curiosity, and an interest in client needs and financial solutions. Use those, alongside the values, as anchors for your examples.

Question 1 of 10Data interpretationTarget: 90 seconds
How much more cash was tied up in net working capital at 31 March 2026 than a year earlier?
| Item | 2025 | 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Trade receivables | 1,370 | 2,300 |
| Inventory | 1,100 | 1,500 |
| Trade payables | 900 | 1,000 |
| Cash | 650 | 120 |
A fictional UK maker of bespoke windows and doors. Net working capital = receivables + inventory − payables.
Net working capital rose from £1,570k to £2,800k, so growth tied up an extra £1,230k of cash.
See the working
Working: 2025: 1,370 + 1,100 − 900 = £1,570k. 2026: 2,300 + 1,500 − 1,000 = £2,800k. The change is £1,230k.
What it means: growth absorbed £1.23m of cash, which is why cash fell to £120k even though revenue rose.
Common mistakes: B ignores the rise in payables, C adds it, D is the 2026 level, and E is the fall in cash, a different measure. Owing suppliers more is a source of cash, not a use of it.
Question 2 of 10Workplace judgementUntimed
The missing numbers
You are a graduate in the UK team of a fictional international bank. A relationship manager asks you to prepare a summary for a client who wants a larger trade facility. The client has sent last year’s accounts only. The latest six months are missing, and the client says the business has “changed a lot”.
- Estimate the last six months by extending last year’s growth and present it as the current position.
- Prepare what you can, state clearly what is missing and why it matters, and suggest the relationship manager requests the latest management figures.
- Tell the relationship manager you cannot start until the client sends everything.
- Prepare the summary from last year’s accounts and describe recent performance as strong.
Choose the most effective response, then the least effective.
B is most effective because it delivers what it can and is open about the gap. A is least effective because it presents invented figures as current performance.
See the working
The other two: D also describes performance without evidence, and is the runner-up for least effective. C stalls the work when useful progress is possible.
Value: We take responsibility. The trap is thinking an estimate is helpful when it isn’t labelled as one.
Question 3 of 10Video response: hypothetical1 min prep · 90 sec answer
A client asks you to “just approve” something you know needs a manager’s sign-off. How do you respond?
Record a short answer in three parts: your headline in the first 10–15 seconds, one specific reason, then your next step. Use five-word notes, not a script.
A strong answer
- Sets a clear, polite boundary: you can’t approve it yourself.
- Frames the reason around the client, not just the rules.
- Makes it easy: takes the details and gets them to the right person today.
- Gives a time and follows up personally.
Read the model answer from the pack
“I’d be polite but clear: I can’t approve it myself, because it needs a manager’s sign-off — and that check protects the client as well as the bank. Then I’d make it easy for them. I’d take the details now, confirm exactly what’s needed and get it to the right person today. I’d tell the client when they’ll hear back — say by 3pm — and I’d follow up myself if I hadn’t heard. If it’s genuinely urgent, I’d ask my manager whether there’s a faster route, rather than skipping the step.”
A developing answer says “I’m not allowed, speak to my manager”, which is correct but hands the problem over. A weak answer approves it to keep the client happy and tells the manager afterwards. FinancePathway practice rubric, not HSBC scoring.

Question 4 of 10Data interpretationCalculator allowed
In which quarter was the operating profit margin highest?
Quarterly results for a fictional business client (£000).
| Quarter | Revenue | Operating costs |
|---|---|---|
| Q1 | 2,400 | 2,160 |
| Q2 | 3,000 | 2,610 |
| Q3 | 3,200 | 2,912 |
| Q4 | 2,500 | 2,150 |
Q4’s profit of £350k on £2,500k of revenue is a 14% margin, the highest of the four quarters.
See the working
Margins: Q1 £240k ÷ £2,400k = 10%. Q2 £390k ÷ £3,000k = 13%. Q3 £288k ÷ £3,200k = 9%. Q4 £350k ÷ £2,500k = 14%.
Common mistakes: Q2 has the highest profit and Q3 the highest revenue, but neither has the highest margin. Check which measure the question asks for.
Question 5 of 10Article reasoningTarget: 2 minutes
Which conclusion does the article best support?
A survey of 400 small UK manufacturers, published by a fictional trade body, found that more of them invested in automation last year than the year before. 62% said labour shortages were the main reason, while 21% pointed to energy costs. Firms with fewer than 20 employees were half as likely to invest as larger firms, mostly because of the upfront cost.
The article says the smallest firms were half as likely to invest, mostly because of the upfront cost.
See the working
Why the others fail: A is wrong because only 21% cited energy costs. C predicts the future, which the article doesn’t do. D overstates it: “half as likely” is not “did not invest”.
Common mistake: choosing an answer that sounds sensible but goes beyond what the text actually says.
Question 6 of 10Workplace judgementUntimed
The challenge in front of your manager
A colleague in the trade finance team replies to your client summary, copying in your manager. They say one of your assumptions about the client’s export volumes looks wrong. You still think your assumption is reasonable.
- Reply to everyone straight away, defending your assumption in detail.
- Call the colleague, understand their view and evidence, then agree a correction or a joint note to your manager.
- Leave it, since your manager has already seen the summary and can decide.
- Change the assumption to theirs immediately, without checking.
Choose the most effective response, then the least effective.
B is most effective because it takes the challenge seriously and resolves it together. C is least effective because it leaves a possible error with your manager.
See the working
The other two: A turns a factual question into a public argument before you have heard the evidence. D avoids conflict but may swap a reasonable assumption for a wrong one.
Values: We value difference and We succeed together.
Question 7 of 10Written replySuggested time: 6 minutes
Reply to the client
A business client emails: “We were told our new account would be open by Monday. It’s Wednesday and we still can’t make payments. This is costing us money.” The account is waiting for one signed form from the client, which was requested last week.
Write a reply of no more than 80 words.
A strong reply
- Acknowledges the impact and apologises for the frustration, without blaming the client.
- Explains clearly what is holding things up.
- Makes the fix easy, for example by resending the form or offering a call.
- Commits to a specific next step and timing.
Read an example reply (65 words)
“I’m sorry for the delay and the disruption it’s causing. The account is ready to open as soon as we receive one signed form, which I’ve attached again here. If you can sign and return it today, I’ll make sure the account is live within one working day and confirm by email. If it’s easier, I can call you this afternoon to talk it through.”
Score yourself out of 4, one point for each item above. FinancePathway practice rubric, not HSBC scoring.
Question 8 of 10Data interpretationCalculator allowed
How much more will the payment cost in sterling?
A UK business client must pay a US supplier $250,000. When the order was placed, the exchange rate was £1 = $1.25. By the payment date, sterling has weakened to £1 = $1.20.
The payment now costs £208,333 ($250,000 ÷ 1.20) instead of £200,000 ($250,000 ÷ 1.25), so £8,333 more.
See the working
Commercial meaning: a 5-cent move in the exchange rate added over £8,000 to one payment. This is why businesses that trade internationally often discuss currency hedging with their bank.
Common mistakes: B and C apply a percentage to the wrong figure, and D is the new total cost rather than the increase.
Question 9 of 10Video response: motivation1 min prep · 90 sec answer
Why HSBC, and why Commercial Banking?
Record a short answer. Give one specific reason for HSBC and one for Commercial Banking, and link each to something you have done or seen yourself.
A strong answer
- One specific reason for HSBC, such as its international network or its UK Commercial Banking business, rather than “a big global bank”.
- A clear reason for Commercial Banking: understanding businesses, how they are financed and building long-term client relationships.
- Evidence from your own experience that makes both reasons believable.
- Delivered within 90 seconds, with the headline in the first sentence.
Score yourself out of 4, one point for each item above. Common trap: an answer built around investment banking when you have applied for Commercial Banking. FinancePathway practice rubric, not HSBC scoring.
Question 10 of 10Video response: behaviour1 min prep · 90 sec answer
Tell us about a time you changed your mind after hearing someone else’s view.
Record a short answer. Answer the question in your first sentence, then explain what you thought, what changed your mind, what you did and what you learned.
A strong answer
- A real example where you started with a clear view of your own.
- Shows you listened properly and explains what was persuasive about the other view.
- Describes what you did differently as a result, and the outcome.
- Ends with what you learned about working with people who see things differently.
Score yourself out of 4, one point for each item above. This question maps to HSBC’s value We value difference. Common trap: a story where you were right all along. FinancePathway practice rubric, not HSBC scoring.

HSBC assessment centre and interviews
The assessment centre is the final stage: about three hours including breaks, mostly virtual and sometimes in person. You meet colleagues from the business area you applied to and complete a mix of interviews and exercises. HSBC may support reasonable travel costs for in-person centres, and development feedback follows. For Engineering and Cyber, HSBC says some candidates also complete a coding assessment.
Motivation: why HSBC?
HSBC specifically recommends researching the bank and your chosen business area so you can explain why you want to join.
Avoid generic global-bank language. Connect HSBC's international network or UK Commercial Banking position to the work you actually want to do.
Behaviour: your evidence
Expect a behavioural, values-based and motivational interview rather than a fixed “competency interview”. HSBC's interview guidance asks you to explain the context, your actions and the outcome, and its student process is built around skills, behaviours and values.
Prepare examples where you took responsibility, incorporated another perspective, worked across a team and followed through.
Commercial thinking: business understanding
HSBC doesn't confirm a standard technical round. But the Commercial Bank vacancy says the role involves client and market data, financial analysis, credit assessments, pricing, credit risk and commercial returns, so commercial preparation is sensible.
That's our inference from the vacancy, not a confirmed interview format. Focus on understanding companies, cash flow, risk and how a bank can support a client's objectives.
Curiosity: questions for HSBC
HSBC specifically recommends preparing thoughtful questions to show curiosity and engagement.
Current, business-specific questions are stronger than asking something easily answered on the careers website.
When is the HSBC assessment centre?
HSBC doesn't publish an assessment centre calendar. It says building the shortlist after the online assessment can take a couple of weeks or longer, and it publishes no timescale for the final decision.
Invited to the assessment centre? The pack includes an evidence bank and 36 interview questions, with strong, developing and weak model answers, so you can rehearse before the day.
HSBC interview questions: what to prepare
HSBC does not publish a list of exact graduate interview questions. Rather than memorising alleged answers, prepare for the question themes that follow naturally from HSBC's own recruitment guidance and the business area you are applying to.
- Motivation — Why HSBC? Prepare two or three genuinely HSBC-specific reasons and connect each one to what you want from your career.
- Role fit — Why Commercial Banking or Corporate Banking? Explain why you are interested in companies, financing, relationships, analysis and longer-term client coverage.
- Behaviour — Tell me about a time you took responsibility. Have strong evidence for ownership, teamwork, challenge, communication and learning from another perspective.
- Commercial awareness — What is affecting HSBC's clients right now? Be ready to discuss a current business issue and explain why it matters to companies and their banking needs.
- Judgement — What would you do if the information was incomplete? Good answers show that you can clarify the objective, identify missing information, consider risk and involve the right people.
- Candidate questions — What would you ask HSBC? Prepare questions that show you have researched the division, current priorities and what junior bankers actually learn.

Still at university? HSBC Summer Internship and student opportunities
If you are not yet eligible for an HSBC graduate programme, an HSBC Summer Internship or another student opportunity may be more relevant. Availability varies by business area, location and recruitment cycle.
For 2027, HSBC's finder lists UK Commercial Bank Relationship Management internships in Manchester (closing 1 November 2026) and London (advertised close 18 October 2026). In London, Corporate and Institutional Banking runs internships in Global Payments Solutions, Global Trade Solutions, Infrastructure Finance, and Markets – Sales and Trading, which opened on 1 October with an advertised closing date of 15 October 2026.
HSBC calls internships a pathway to its graduate programmes and says direct graduate vacancies may be limited where internships run. It doesn't guarantee conversion to a graduate offer.
Internships can also help students understand the work before deciding which HSBC graduate scheme best fits them. Explore banking graduate schemes and opportunities →
Commercial Banking and Corporate Banking routes at HSBC
HSBC changed its organisational structure in 2025. Its UK business includes UK Commercial Banking, while Corporate and Institutional Banking — CIB — operates as HSBC's international wholesale bank. For graduate applicants, that distinction matters.
HSBC UK: UK Commercial Banking
HSBC describes the UK as one of its two home markets and says its UK business includes Commercial Banking, including HSBC Innovation Banking.
For a graduate candidate, this is the side most closely aligned with relationship-led banking for UK companies: understanding businesses, supporting their financing needs and connecting clients to appropriate banking products.
The second paragraph is FinancePathway's role interpretation, not wording from an HSBC graduate vacancy. What is Commercial Banking? →
HSBC CIB: Corporate and Institutional Banking
HSBC describes CIB as an international wholesale bank with significant strengths in its balance sheet, international network, transaction banking and capital markets.
It is particularly focused on the global banking needs of international corporate clients.
No UK CIB graduate programme was listed when we checked on 10 October 2026, and the “Investment Banking Graduate 2027” listings on job boards are for Hong Kong and Singapore. CIB does run 2027 internships in London.
Do not assume a Commercial Banking graduate route and a CIB graduate route will have identical work, products or recruitment.
HSBC application FAQs
These answers cover common HSBC graduate scheme, Job Simulation, online assessment, salary and interview searches without presenting old recruitment stages as current fact.
Applying to HSBC
Is the HSBC UK graduate scheme 2027 open?
Not for Commercial Banking: the 2027 Commercial Bank Relationship Management vacancies, North and South Home Counties, had an advertised close of 18 October 2026. HSBC's London Private Bank (closing 29 October), Cyber (1 November) and Engineering (15 November) programmes have later deadlines. HSBC's programme finder only shows open programmes, so join its Talent Community for alerts. See other HSBC programmes.
When do HSBC graduate schemes open in the UK?
Dates differ by programme. For 2027, the Commercial Bank and London Private Bank programmes opened on 1 October 2026, and Engineering and Cyber opened on 5 October. Commercial Bank applications have now closed. HSBC's programme finder only shows open programmes, so join its Talent Community for alerts when others, such as Finance and Risk, open.
Is there an HSBC graduate scheme in London?
Yes. HSBC's 2027 Relationship Management – Private Bank – Graduate programme is based in London, within International Wealth and Premier Banking. It lasts 18 months across three six-month rotations, starts on 26 July 2027 and closes on 29 October 2026. The Commercial Bank programme isn't London-based: its vacancies cover the North and the South Home Counties. See other HSBC programmes.
Is there an HSBC CIB or investment banking graduate programme in the UK?
Not as of 10 October 2026. No UK Corporate and Institutional Banking graduate programme was listed when we checked, and the “Investment Banking Graduate 2027” listings on job boards are for Hong Kong and Singapore. In London, CIB runs 2027 internships in Global Payments Solutions, Global Trade Solutions, Infrastructure Finance, and Markets – Sales and Trading, with an advertised closing date of 15 October 2026.
What is the HSBC Innovation Banking graduate scheme?
There's no confirmed 2027 UK graduate programme from HSBC Innovation Banking. It's a separate HSBC Group business with its own careers page, so it isn't the same as HSBC's Commercial Bank Relationship Management graduate programme. If Innovation Banking interests you, check its own careers page, and use HSBC's programme finder for the main graduate programmes.
Can HSBC summer interns get a graduate offer?
It's possible but not guaranteed. HSBC calls internships a pathway to its graduate programmes and says direct graduate vacancies may be limited where internships run. It doesn't publish a guaranteed conversion or automatic offer, so treat an internship as a strong route in rather than a promise. If you're still at university, look at 2027 internships alongside graduate programmes.
Does HSBC sponsor visas for graduate programmes, and can I apply on a Graduate visa?
It depends on the programme: HSBC has no single graduate-wide visa policy. Commercial Bank, Engineering and Cyber don't offer sponsorship, while the London Private Bank vacancy says HSBC will consider candidates who need it. The North Commercial Bank vacancy says HSBC can't progress candidates on a Student or Graduate visa, because they would later need sponsorship. Check the individual vacancy.
Can I apply to more than one HSBC programme?
No. HSBC accepts one application per recruitment cycle and warns that it may not be able to transfer you to another vacancy, so choose your programme and location carefully before you apply. If you're unsuccessful, you can apply again in a later cycle. HSBC doesn't publish a cooling-off period between applications.
Can I request adjustments for the HSBC assessment?
Yes. HSBC says candidates should tell it about adjustments needed during the application process. Its assessments also include accessibility features, and candidates can request additional support.
How many rounds does the HSBC graduate process have?
HSBC currently presents three main stages: application, online assessment and assessment centre. The online stage can contain one or two assessments, depending on the programme and market. The assessment centre includes “different interviews and exercises”, and HSBC doesn't publish how many interviews there are. See the application process.
The HSBC Job Simulation and online assessment
What is the HSBC Job Simulation?
It's an older HSBC name for its online work simulation. HSBC's current guidance calls this stage the online assessment: one or two assessments using realistic work situations, data and written material, with selection-style, short written and recorded video responses. Allow around 40 minutes per assessment. HSBC doesn't confirm a separately named Job Simulation for 2027, so follow your invitation. See the HSBC Job Simulation.
Is the HSBC Job Simulation still a separate stage in 2027?
HSBC doesn't confirm a separately named Job Simulation for 2027. It describes one online assessment stage that may contain one or two assessments, and it doesn't publish who gets a second assessment or how candidates progress between them, so follow the stages in your own invitation.
What questions are in the HSBC Job Simulation?
HSBC describes formats rather than questions. Its current guidance uses realistic work situations presented through audio or video, mock emails, written articles, tables, graphs and other data, with selection-style answers, short written responses and short recorded video responses. Scenarios may reflect the business area you applied to. HSBC doesn't publish a question count, so practise the formats with the free questions.
Is the HSBC Job Simulation different for investment banking, markets or asset management?
HSBC doesn't publish a separate version for each business area, but it says the scenarios are designed around the programme you applied for, so expect content that reflects that business. No UK CIB graduate programme was listed when we checked on 10 October 2026; see the banking routes. The HSBC Practice Pack includes a second full work simulation covering Wealth, Markets and Finance/Risk.
How do I pass the HSBC Job Simulation?
HSBC does not publish a universal pass mark or an answer key. The strongest preparation is to use HSBC's Practice Zone, become comfortable interpreting workplace information and data, understand its current values and practise communicating concise written and recorded responses.
What is the HSBC Online Immersive Assessment?
It's an older HSBC name for its online work-based assessment. HSBC's current guidance calls this stage simply the online assessment. It uses realistic workplace scenarios presented through audio or video, emails, articles, tables and graphs, with selection-style, short written and recorded video responses. Allow around 40 minutes per assessment and up to about 90 minutes in total. See the online assessment.
What is the HSBC values assessment?
HSBC tells candidates to understand its values and think about how they can embody them during the online assessment. The current values are We get it done, We value difference, We take responsibility and We succeed together. HSBC's current UK-facing graduate guidance does not describe a separate universal stage formally called a Values Assessment.
What is the HSBC assessment test?
It is not simply one conventional numerical test. HSBC describes work-based online assessments designed to assess cognitive and behavioural skills through several information and response formats.
How long is the HSBC online assessment?
Allow around 40 minutes per assessment and up to about 90 minutes in total, depending on whether you get one assessment or two. It isn't accurate to call the whole thing untimed or exactly 90 minutes: HSBC says some activities are time-recorded or time-limited, especially video responses. One Glassdoor Commercial Banking candidate in March 2025 found the countdown challenging.
Does HSBC use HireVue or Cappfinity?
HSBC doesn't say. Its graduate guide, FAQs and Commercial Bank vacancies don't name an assessment provider. Prep sites point to Cappfinity more often than HireVue, but neither is confirmed for 2027, so prepare for the formats HSBC describes rather than for one platform. HSBC's own Practice Zone is the best way to get used to the assessment.
Does HSBC use a video interview?
HSBC confirms short video-response questions within its current online assessments. It does not describe a separate universal recorded-video-interview stage for every graduate programme. Your own invitation determines the exact format.
What is the HSBC Candidate Zone and Practice Zone?
The Candidate Zone is HSBC's wider candidate guidance; the Practice Zone is familiarisation material for the online assessment. The Practice Zone is at hsbc.preparationplus.com and shows in Google as “HSBC Candidate Zone”. Work through it before you open your live assessment, rather than relying on replicas from test-prep sites.
Is the HSBC Forage job simulation part of the application?
No. Forage's virtual job simulations are free, self-paced career exercises, and HSBC's current application guidance doesn't include them as a recruitment step, so completing one doesn't count as your HSBC online assessment. They can still help you understand the work, but for the live assessment, use HSBC's own Practice Zone.
Can I complete the HSBC online assessment on my phone?
You can submit the initial application on a mobile device, but HSBC recommends using a laptop or tablet with a strong internet connection for the online assessments because you will need to review multiple information sources. Video responses also require a webcam.
Does HSBC give feedback after the online assessment?
Yes. HSBC says online assessment results normally arrive within a couple of days, and its emails give developmental feedback on your strengths and areas to develop. HSBC doesn't publish what the feedback contains or how it's scored, so use it to sharpen your examples for the next stage rather than treating it as a score.
Assessment centre, timescales and salary
What happens at the HSBC assessment centre, is it virtual, and how long is it?
It's the final stage, lasting about three hours including breaks. Most are virtual, though some are in person, and HSBC may support reasonable travel costs. You meet colleagues from the business area you applied to and complete a mix of interviews and exercises. HSBC doesn't publish a 2027 timetable or exercise list, and development feedback follows. See the assessment centre.
What HSBC interview questions should I prepare for?
HSBC does not publish its exact graduate interview questions. Prepare thoroughly for why HSBC, why your chosen business area, behavioural evidence linked to HSBC's values, commercial awareness and questions that test how you interpret information and make workplace decisions.
How long does the HSBC recruitment process take?
There's no published overall timescale. HSBC says online assessment results normally arrive within a couple of days, but building the assessment centre shortlist can take a couple of weeks or longer. It publishes no assessment centre calendar and no timescale for the final decision, and there isn't enough recent candidate evidence to give a typical total.
What is the HSBC graduate scheme salary?
HSBC doesn't publish a salary on its 2027 Commercial Bank vacancies. As an indicative guide only, Glassdoor employee submissions for Commercial Banking Graduate roles in 2026 cluster in the high £30,000s to low £40,000s in total pay. These are self-reported figures that may mix base and additional pay, not an advertised 2027 salary.
How hard is it to get a graduate job at HSBC?
HSBC does not publish a current UK acceptance rate for the Commercial Banking route, so claims that a particular percentage of applicants succeed should be treated cautiously. The process assesses cognitive and behavioural skills before the final assessment centre.
