Should a banking CV be one or two pages?
Start with one page if you are a student or recent graduate. The commercial banking CV template can expand to two pages when you have enough relevant experience to justify the space. Always follow the employer’s page limit and file requirements.
Choose one page
Your strongest education, work experience and achievements fit clearly. Remove repeated points and generic skill claims before adding a second page.
Use two pages when justified
You have several substantial internships, jobs or achievements that would lose useful detail on one page. Page two should add evidence, not just extra modules or spacing.
Keep the type readable. A cramped one-page CV is not an improvement. LSE Careers notes that finance CVs are typically one page, while emphasising employer requirements.
Tailor the Commercial Banking CV Template for Corporate or Business Banking
Use the same clean structure, but choose evidence for the actual vacancy. Programme names overlap between banks, so the job description is more useful than the label alone.
Commercial banking CV
Show business understanding, customer relationships and sound judgement. Useful evidence includes researching a company, interpreting financial information or resolving a customer problem.
Corporate banking CV
Where the role involves larger or international clients, foreground company analysis, credit or financing research, and collaboration. Only mention products you can explain.
Business banking CV
For roles supporting smaller businesses, prioritise customer service, practical problem-solving and an understanding of cash flow and business needs.

How to write your banking CV
Work through the commercial banking CV template section by section, keeping every claim relevant to the vacancy.
Contact details
Include your name, phone number, professional email, LinkedIn and general location. A photograph, date of birth and full street address are not normally needed for a UK graduate CV.
Education and relevant projects
Show your degree, dates and expected or achieved grade clearly. Put education first if it is your strongest evidence; substantial relevant experience can lead instead. Add a project that shows analysis, a conclusion and an output.
Work experience
Use reverse chronological order within each section and two to four focused bullets per role. Explain your contribution, the task and what you delivered. Customer service, retail and hospitality count: show responsibility, accuracy and communication.
Leadership and achievements
Use society roles, volunteering and sport where they show a specific contribution. Include truthful figures such as an event audience, budget or membership growth. Distinguish your work from the wider team’s result.
Skills, interests and optional profile
List tools and languages you can use and interests you can discuss. A short profile is optional: keep it only if it adds useful context. Demonstrate communication and judgement through experience rather than a list of adjectives.
Final formatting check
Use consistent dates, ordinary headings and a simple layout. Check the exported file for moved lines and missing text. Follow the employer’s file instructions; otherwise PDF preserves the layout. Use a clear filename such as Firstname-Surname-CV.pdf.
No banking internship?
Use a university company-analysis project, customer-facing job, society budget or volunteering responsibility. Explain what you actually did and what it demonstrates. You do not need to turn ordinary student experience into a fictional banking role.
If you need stronger evidence, complete a small piece of company research and be ready to explain your conclusions.
Weak and improved CV bullet points
The commercial banking CV template uses evidence-led bullets. A stronger bullet explains your action, the task and the output; any added detail must be true of your experience.
Weak
Helped customers and worked as part of a team.
Improved
Resolved customer queries during peak trading periods, prioritising competing requests and communicating clearly with customers and colleagues.
Weak
Analysed a company for a university project.
Improved
Analysed the financial performance and competitive position of a UK-listed retailer, identifying margin pressure and presenting recommendations to a four-person project panel.
Weak
Treasurer of the Finance Society.
Improved
Managed the society’s annual budget, introduced monthly cash-flow reporting and presented spending recommendations to the committee.
Weak
Prepared documents for meetings.
Improved
Prepared briefing notes for weekly client meetings by summarising company performance, recent news and outstanding actions for the relationship team.
Numbers help when they describe real scale or impact. Never invent a percentage or imply you achieved a team result alone.
Using AI responsibly
How to use AI when writing a commercial banking CV
AI can help refine a commercial banking CV template by improving clarity and revealing weak evidence. It becomes dangerous when it invents achievements, exaggerates responsibility or produces language you cannot defend in an interview.
Use AI after you have written an evidence inventory in your own words. Start with the real task, who was involved, the tools used, the difficulty, your exact contribution and the outcome. Then ask the tool to improve structure without changing the facts.
Do not paste client names, unpublished financial information, internal credit papers, customer data or confidential employer documents into a public AI tool. Replace sensitive details with neutral descriptions and check your employer’s policy before using any work material.
Good uses of AI
- Shortening long sentences without changing the facts
- Finding vague or repeated language
- Comparing your evidence with a job description
- Checking grammar, dates and formatting consistency
- Asking questions that expose missing evidence
- Testing whether a bullet is understandable to a non-specialist
Bad uses of AI
- Inventing numbers, responsibilities or outcomes
- Adding banking knowledge you do not possess
- Uploading confidential employer or client information
- Copying generic language without rewriting it
- Stuffing the CV with every word from the job advert
- Submitting the first generated version
